Project Overview

Role
Product Designer
Project Duration
18 Weeks
Meyd.it, an Australian slow fashion start up, seeks to connect small fashion businesses with clients who value slow fashion and may want clothing specifically tailored for them . The goal of this project was to make the website more user friendly. The current user base is quite small, sitting at 100 users around Sydney, but designs were made in mind for a world-wide user base.
Challenges and Objectives:
- Goal: Increase user base through streamlining the sign up process and redesigning brand image.
- Challenges: Working with limited resources a start up has available to them, and navigating through conflicting concerns the team had.
Objectives:
- Redesigning brand image.
- Creating a more modern look to the website while maintaining Meyd.it’s established brand image.
- Changing copy to better reflect what Meyd.it offers.
- Streamlining sign up process.
- Identify areas that may cause confusion for users and modify it accordingly.
- Examine past digital learning experiences, assessing success factors.
- Enhancing user experience for small fashion business users, which Meyd.it labels as “Creatives”.
- Adding in business and marketing features that would be helpful to a designer or tailor who is starting out in their journey of creating their own small business.
- Creating an editing mode that would help Creatives better update their portfolio.
- Modernising the appearance of Creative portfolios and
- Creating a mobile accessible interface.
- Developing an interface that can be easily viewed on mobile phone for convenience of users.
- Creating a design that would be simple to view without losing the information accessed on webpages.
Outcome:
The project, which I collaborated on as a product designer, required not only my design skills, but also knowledge in marketing and copywriting.
Enhancing Small Business User Experience

In the previous design, after new users finished up sigining up, they had the option to click on the button “Start working on a making” which would take them to the home page. The old home page is as shown above on the left image- it is simply a page with job postings on it.
There was no page to show the user information about their shop and how their business was doing. I decided to create a dashboard with centralised information that would assist the user in running a fashion store. The user is generally a clothing designer with no business knowledge, hence access to tips for starting out their new clothing store would perhaps be most helpful, as seen as above image on the right.
Whereas more seasoned users may require statistics on sales and traffic to assist them better in knowing which products are getting more sales, and seeing what marketing campaigns are working best etc. Additionally, making the most of Meyd.it’s back end abilities to schedule meetings and deadlines with clients, I created an “Agenda” section that would help sellers keep on top of important items.

Modernising Atelier Shop Fronts

In the old design, the store front lacked important information that clients would require from the store. For example, obvious ways of contacting the seller, reviews from previous clients, information on store policies- e.g. shipping, refunds/exchanges etc.

Therefore, in the new design, I added important CTA buttons such as messaging options, a specific contact us section. I combined the “Creatives” and “Story” section under “About Us” where essential information about store policies would also be available.

The original design of the shop front attempted to incorporate a way for business users to showcase the style of clothing that represented the store with different “Collections”. Potential clients could click on each collection to see more of the collection. However, it did not deliver an impactful first impression.
In my design, I created a portfolio that would showcase 6 images of the seller’s choosing. There would be a short description beneath each image to state what type of clothing it was and what collection it was under. If the image was clicked on, it would take clients to see more images under that specific Collection. I believed in this way it would help the seller market their brand better towards potential new clients.

Intuitive Editing Mode
The old design for sellers to edit their shop was clunky and many users complained about not being able to figure out how to make changes to their store.
In the new design I created an editing button that would only be visible to the store owner that would allow them to go into an editing mode that made it easier for them to make changes to their store. Below is the prototype.
Thank you for taking your time to view my work with Meyd.it. Unfortunately, I have not had the time to fully show you the designs I have created. Please feel free to contact me for further information. I would be delighted to show you more of my work through a video chat.
